The Cinema Eye Honors for Nonfiction Filmmaking have opened voting for the 2014 Audience Choice Prize, the Cinema Eye award that is decided by the votes of the public. Ten films, including a number of the most talked-about and debated documentaries of the year, are amongst this year’s Audience Choice nominees.
Cinema Eye Honors Announces 2013 Heterodox Nominees
The Cinema Eye Heterodox Award honors a narrative film that imaginatively incorporates nonfiction strategies, content and/or modes of production. The five films nominated for the 2014 Heterodox Award are: Andrew Bujalski’s Computer Chess, Randy Moore’s Escape From Tomorrow, James Franco and Travis Mathews’ Interior. Leather Bar., Kleber Mendonça Filho’s Neighboring Sounds and Carlos Reygadas’ Post Tenebras Lux.
Cinema Eye Honors Announces Josh Fox as Recipient of Hell Yeah Prize for Gasland Films
The Cinema Eye Honors for Nonfiction Filmmaking today announced that they will present the organization’s Hell Yeah Prize to Josh Fox for his two Gasland films, which have spurred a nationwide, grassroots movement that calls attention to the environmental risks of hydraulic fracking, an issue that was largely unheard of prior to the first Gasland film’s debut at the Sundance Film Festival in 2010.
Cinema Eye Honors Announces Nominees for 7th Annual Nonfiction Film Awards
Forty feature films and six shorts will vie for this year’s Cinema Eye Honors for Nonfiction Filmmaking as nominees were announced at the Film Society of Lincoln Center’s Elinor Bunin Munroe Film Center in New York City at an event hosted by the Tribeca Film Institute. Winners of the 7th Annual Cinema Eye Honors will be announced at a ceremony in early January 2014 in New York City.

The focus of 15 films, these seventeen people (and one bull orca) were selected by votes from more than 80 of this year’s eligible filmmakers as well as Cinema Eye’s nominations committee, which is comprised of 25 of the world’s top documentary film programmers and curators.

Fifteen documentary short films from around the world have been named as finalists for the 2014 Cinema Eye Honors. This year’s finalists includes a previous Cinema Eye winner and two filmmakers who were named to previous Shorts Lists.
