In 1974, a Sarasota, Florida newscaster Christine Chubbuck shocked morning viewers and coworkers by pulling out a gun and shooting herself in the head on the air. Forty years later, in an attempt to investigate how history has remembered her, rising film star Kate Lyn Sheil agrees to portray the journalist in a film. In order to prepare, the actress travels to Chubbuck’s hometown. Gumshoe-style, she conducts interviews with a variety of subjects, from a gun store employee to a fellow news anchor to a family friend. Created by the ever-slippery, veteran Robert Greene (Actress), these episodes play less as fact-gathering missions than they do soul-searching expeditions. While the on-screen participants reveal their preconceptions and deepest secrets, the many ethical quandaries surrounding the role build to a climax for the equally tormented Sheil. (True/False)
