Cinema Eye, the nonfiction filmmaking organization dedicated to recognizing outstanding achievement and craft in the documentary form, has announced key dates, rules and lead production team for the 2016 Cinema Eye Week and Honors Awards Ceremony.
The 2016 Cinema Eye Honors Week will take place in New York City beginning Sunday, January 10 and concluding with the 9th Annual Awards Ceremony at the Museum of the Moving Image on Wednesday, January 13.
Nominations for the 2016 Cinema Eye Honors will be announced November 11, 2015 in Copenhagen, Denmark at the CPH:DOX Documentary Film Festival. Recipients of this year’s Distinctive Honors – the Legacy Award recipient, the Heterodox nominees for narrative films that utilize documentary tools or elements, the Unforgettable Characters of the Year and this year’s list of classic Influential Films will be announced throughout this fall.
Rules and regulations for voting (as well as a list of nominators) for the 2016 Honors are now posted on the Cinema Eye website (www.cinemaeyehonors.com/rules).
Cinema Eye is also announcing today its Production Team for the 2016 Honors: Wendy Garrett, who joined Cinema Eye in 2014 as Producer of the Awards Ceremony and Nathan Truesdell, who has been a Core Team Member since 2010, will serve as the Co-Chairs of Cinema Eye Week. Will Lennon, who has been with CEH since 2011, has been named the Lead Producer for Cinema Eye.
IMPORTANT NOTE: It was recently announced that Founding Director AJ Schnack and Nominations Committee Chair Charlotte Cook were joining with Oscar-winning filmmaker Laura Poitras to launch Field of Vision, a new home for short-form visual journalism. While Field of Vision may be partnering with CEH on events, Cinema Eye remains an independent arts organization and has no official relationship with Field of Vision, The Intercept or First Look Media. Cinema Eye has set rules and procedures for 2016 and beyond that guarantee a fair, unbiased voting process as well as an oversight procedure that ensures that any conflicts of interest are addressed.
